This musical, penned by the successful duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (THE GREATEST SHOWMAN or LA LA LAND) with a libretto by Steven Levenson, won 6 Tony Awards in 2017, including the category for "Best Musical." The album recording of the musical received a Grammy in 2018. In 2021, the musical also found its way to the big screen. After successful runs on Broadway and the West End, this outstanding and special musical can now be experienced in a new production in Gmunden.
Storyline: Teenager Evan Hansen suffers from anxiety disorders and is considered an outsider at school. One of several letters addressed to himself, which he is supposed to write as part of his therapy sessions, accidentally falls into the hands of his classmate Connor Murphy, who commits suicide a short time later. When Connor's parents find the letter in their son's home, they assume that Evan was his best friend. In the process, Evan becomes more and more entangled in a web of lies. This is a moving coming-of-age story with a poignant message.
